Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI) or Penetrant Testing (PT) is used to locate surface-breaking defects in non-porous materials. Inspection is done by certified inspectors. LPI involves cleaning the sample, application of penetrant, removal of excess penetrant, application of developer, inspection, and cleaning. LPI is used for detection of cracks and defects in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
